IHN Food Coop

The IHN Food Coop is a partnership network created by alumni of the Institute of Human Nutrition at Columbia University. We began in May 2020 with concerns about COVID-19 and amplified food insecurity, especially in New York City. With so many incredible organizations doing great work to combat food insecurity in NYC, we realized the best way to give aid was to meet those organizations where they were and provide assistance on nutrition-related projects.

Our core volunteer base comes from IHN alumni and current students, meaning most of our volunteers hold an MS in Human Nutrition and are equipped to design and carry out nutrition education-based volunteer projects. In addition to education-based projects, our volunteers assist with hands-on delivery, garden work, mentor/mentee programs, fundraising, and more.

The IHN MS Program students learn about public health issues through a nutrition lens; this leaves students and alumni eager to lend a hand to organizations that fight the massive inequalities that exist around access to nutritious food.

We enjoy finding new partnerships serving NYC and helping them achieve their goals.
