Sabrina Diano Receives $1M NYFIRST Grant

Sabrina Diano, PhD, Director of Columbia’s Institute of Human Nutrition and Professor of Molecular Pharmacology and Therapeutics and Physiology and Cellular Biophysics, has received a $1 million NYFIRST grant from New York State to support the establishment of her laboratory, Diano Lab, at Columbia University.

The NYFIRST program supports New York medical schools in recruiting and retaining leading translational researchers whose work addresses unmet clinical needs. The four-year award will help expand Dr. Diano’s research program at Columbia, strengthening IHN’s capacity for discovery in nutrition, metabolism, and related areas of biomedical science.

Dr. Diano’s research focuses on the brain mechanisms that regulate energy balance and glucose metabolism, with broader implications for understanding metabolic disease. Her work brings together nutrition science, neuroscience, and molecular physiology to examine how the brain senses and responds to metabolic signals.

The Institute of Human Nutrition congratulates Dr. Diano on this honor and looks forward to the continued growth of her laboratory and research program at Columbia.
