IHN Welcomes the MS in Human Nutrition Class of 2024
The Columbia University Institute of Human Nutrition welcomed the MS in Human Nutrition Class of 2024 to campus for the start of the fall semester.
The incoming students began their graduate experience with an informative and engaging orientation week designed to introduce them to Columbia University, the Institute of Human Nutrition, and the academic year ahead.
Beginning the MS in Human Nutrition Experience
Throughout orientation, students met IHN faculty and staff, learned about available university resources, and became familiar with their new academic environment at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
The week also gave students the opportunity to meet their classmates and begin building connections before starting their coursework and research.
The MS in Human Nutrition is an integrative, research-driven graduate program that combines nutrition science coursework with a faculty-guided master’s thesis. Students explore nutrition through basic science, clinical, and public health perspectives while preparing for careers and further education in healthcare, research, academia, public health, and related fields.
Preparing for the Academic Year Ahead
Orientation helps students understand the structure and expectations of the program before classes begin. The MS in Human Nutrition curriculum includes coursework in nutritional biochemistry, epidemiology, life cycle nutrition, public health nutrition, and research methods.
Students also begin exploring potential thesis topics and the research opportunities available through IHN. With support from faculty mentors, each student completes a thesis focused on basic nutrition science, clinical nutrition, or public health nutrition.
Building the IHN Community
Beyond introducing students to the academic program, orientation creates an important opportunity for classmates to get to know one another. These early connections help establish a collaborative and supportive environment as students move through an intensive year of coursework and research.
IHN is excited to welcome the Class of 2024 and looks forward to seeing everything its students accomplish during their time at Columbia.
